Acoustic Hip Hop For The Mind and Soul

Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Bright Eyes and Nas….yeah, just a tad bit different. But it eventually led me into digging through my record collection and finding some of my favorite hip hop songs that beautifully incorporate acoustic guitar into versatile and simple hip hop from some of today and yesterday’s most talented wordsmiths. Of course Lauryn Hill and The Fugees had to make the list. Hopefully you enjoy this mix as i spent alot of time trying to make each song flow into the next so you can just push play and drift off into an atmosphere void of stress and worry.

I actually love this particular crossover of genres so if you have any suggestions of acoustic hip hop songs then please don’t hesitate to share in the comments section

Happy Listening!

  1. Bright Eyes and Nas, huh? I can work with that.

    • haha i thought about you while making this playlist. I’ve actually been practicing with VirtualDJ and i think i’ve got the basics of beatmatching down but the complicated part is trying to listen to one song in your headphones and the other one on speakers..then trying to sync them up. I guess it’s just one of those things that takes practice though.

I’ve actually never DJ’d, matched a beat on a turntable real or virtual, etc. You would spin me under the table if we went head to head. No joke.

  2. Possibly, i just finished this mix using the fugees and Monsters of Folk. doesn’t sound too horribly at all. may cause some internal ear bleeding but other than that..i think i’m on the right track to becoming somewhat of a good DJ

I think you need to post it. I see a FGP/T86A collab in the future!

Fyi, Vol 3 is pretty much done. Actually trying to get this one out there more visibly and seriously, so i’m not gonna just dump it on soundcloud/YouTube/the homepage just yet…I can tell you for sure though, that’s its the best work I’ve ever done.

A few tracks in this one that would be at home on one of your Pl’s:

      Modest Mouse – Float On
Mogwai – Danphe and the Brain
The Jealous Sound – Promise of the West
      Against Me! – Russian Spies
That’s all I can say for now.

..do you know how one would go about getting Pitchfork and the like to review something? Know anyone?

  3. Oh hell yeah, those are all great songs by great bands and i’m not really sure how to go about getting a review on pitchfork, just keep putting your stuff out there wherever and whenever you can and you’ll eventually get noticed but if i meet someone with the hook up or any information i will definitely let you know. That’s a pretty big magazine though so if you send oyur stuff to some smaller publications then i believe you’ll end up meeting someone in the industry who could lead you on the right path. I’m just a lone blogger. lol. I will keep my eye out for you though.
